(a) A person commits a misdemeanor if he or she knowingly desecrates any public monument, structure or place of worship or burial or desecrates in a public place any other object of veneration by the public or a substantial segment thereof.

(b) The term desecrate means defacing, damaging, polluting or otherwise physically mistreating in a way that the defendant knows will outrage the sensibilities of persons likely to observe or discover his or her action or its result. (Ord. 303 §9-105, 1977)
